ושלח יי ית נתן לות דוד ואתא לותיה ואמר ליה תרין גברין הוו בקרתא חדא חד עתירא וחד מסכינא:
mskyna wkhd ethyra khd khda bqrtha hww gbryn thryn lyh wamr lwthyh watha dwd lwth nthn yth yy wshlkh
Yahweh sent Nathan to David. He came to him, and said to him, “There were two men in one city: the one rich, and the other poor.

לעתירא הוו עאן ותורין סגי לחדא:
lkhda sgy wthwryn ean hww lethyra
The rich man had very many flocks and herds,

ולמסכינא לית כל מדעם אלהין אמרתא חדא זעירא דזבנא וקיימה ורבת עמיה ועם בנוהי כחדא מפתיה אכלת ומכוסיה שתיא ובחיקיה שכבא והות ליה כברתא:
kbrtha lyh whwth shkba wbkhyqyh shthya wmkwsyh aklth mpthyh kkhda bnwhy wem emyh wrbth wqyymh dzbna zeyra khda amrtha alhyn mdem kl lyth wlmskyna
but the poor man had nothing, except one little ewe lamb, which he had bought and raised. It grew up together with him and with his children. It ate of his own food, drank of his own cup, and lay in his bosom, and was like a daughter to him.

ואתא אורחא לגברא עתירא וחס למיסב מעניה ומתוריה למעבד לאורחא דאתא ליה ונסיב ית אמרתא דגברא מסכינא ועבדה לגברא דאתא לותיה:
lwthyh datha lgbra webdh mskyna dgbra amrtha yth wnsyb lyh datha lawrkha lmebd wmthwryh menyh lmysb wkhs ethyra lgbra awrkha watha
A traveler came to the rich man, and he didn’t want to take of his own flock and of his own herd to prepare for the wayfaring man who had come to him, but took the poor man’s lamb and prepared it for the man who had come to him.”

ותקיף רוגזא דדוד בגברא לחדא ואמר לנתן קיים הוא יי ארי גבר חיב קטול גברא דעבד דא:
da debd gbra qTwl khyb gbr ary yy hwa qyym lnthn wamr lkhda bgbra ddwd rwgza wthqyp
David’s anger burned hot against the man, and he said to Nathan, “As Yahweh lives, the man who has done this deserves to die!

וית אמרתא ישלם על חד ארבעא חלף דעבד ית פתגמא הדין ועל דלא חס:
khs dla wel hdyn pthgma yth debd khlp arbea khd el yshlm amrtha wyth
He must restore the lamb fourfold, because he did this thing and because he had no pity!”

ואמר נתן לדוד את גברא כדנן אמר יי אלהא דישראל אנא משחתך למהוי מלכא על ישראל ואנא שיזבתך מידא דשאול:
dshawl myda shyzbthk wana yshral el mlka lmhwy mshkhthk ana dyshral alha yy amr kdnn gbra ath ldwd nthn wamr
Nathan said to David, “You are the man! This is what Yahweh, the God of Israel, says: ‘I anointed you king over Israel, and I delivered you out of the hand of Saul.

ויהבית לך ית בית רבונך וית נשי רבונך בחיקך ויהבית לך ית בית ישראל ויהודה ואם זעיר ואוסיף לך כאלין וכאלין:
wkalyn kalyn lk wawsyp zeyr wam wyhwdh yshral byth yth lk wyhbyth bkhyqk rbwnk nshy wyth rbwnk byth yth lk wyhbyth
I gave you your master’s house and your master’s wives into your bosom, and gave you the house of Israel and of Judah; and if that would have been too little, I would have added to you many more such things.

מא דין בסרתא על פתגמא דיי למעבד דביש קדמוהי ית אוריה חתאה קטלתא בחרבא וית אתתיה נסיבתא לך לאתו ויתיה קטלתא בחרבא דבני עמון:
emwn dbny bkhrba qTltha wythyh lathw lk nsybtha aththyh wyth bkhrba qTltha khthah awryh yth qdmwhy dbysh lmebd dyy pthgma el bsrtha dyn ma
Why have you despised Yahweh’s word, to do that which is evil in his sight? You have struck Uriah the Hittite with the sword, have taken his wife to be your wife, and have slain him with the sword of the children of Ammon.

וכען לא תפסוק חרבא מן אנש ביתך עד עלמא חלף דאשטתני ונסבתא ית אתת אוריה חתאה למהוי לך לאתו:
lathw lk lmhwy khthah awryh athth yth wnsbtha dashTthny khlp elma ed bythk ansh mn khrba thpswq la wken
Now therefore the sword will never depart from your house, because you have despised me and have taken Uriah the Hittite’s wife to be your wife.’

כדנן אמר יי הא אנא מקיים עלך בישא מביתך ואדבר ית נשך לעינך ואתן לחברך וישכוב עם נשך לעיני שמשא הדא:
hda shmsha leyny nshk em wyshkwb lkhbrk wathn leynk nshk yth wadbr mbythk bysha elk mqyym ana ha yy amr kdnn
“This is what Yahweh says: ‘Behold, I will raise up evil against you out of your own house; and I will take your wives before your eyes and give them to your neighbor, and he will lie with your wives in the sight of this sun.

ארי את עבדתא בסתרא ואנא אעביד ית פתגמא הדין קדם כל ישראל וקביל שמשא:
shmsha wqbyl yshral kl qdm hdyn pthgma yth aebyd wana bsthra ebdtha ath ary
For you did this secretly, but I will do this thing before all Israel, and before the sun.’”

ואמר דוד לנתן חבית קדם יי ואמר נתן לדוד אף יי אעבר חובך לא תמות:
thmwth la khwbk aebr yy ap ldwd nthn wamr yy qdm khbyth lnthn dwd wamr
David said to Nathan, “I have sinned against Yahweh.” Nathan said to David, “Yahweh also has put away your sin. You will not die.

ברם ארי מפתח פתחתא פומא דסנאי עמא דיי בפתגמא הדין אף ברא דאתיליד לך ממת ימות:
ymwth mmth lk dathylyd bra ap hdyn bpthgma dyy ema dsnay pwma pthkhtha mpthkh ary brm
However, because by this deed you have given great occasion to Yahweh’s enemies to blaspheme, the child also who is born to you will surely die.”

ואזל נתן לביתיה ותבר יי ית רביא דילידת אתת אוריה לדוד ואטען:
waTen ldwd awryh athth dylydth rbya yth yy wthbr lbythyh nthn wazl
Then Nathan departed to his house. Yahweh struck the child that Uriah’s wife bore to David, and he was very sick.

ובעא דוד רחמין מן קדם יי על רביא וצם דוד צומא ועל ובת ושכיב על ארעא:
area el wshkyb wbth wel tswma dwd wtsm rbya el yy qdm mn rkhmyn dwd wbea
David therefore begged God for the child; and David fasted, and went in and lay all night on the ground.

וקמו סבי ביתיה עלוהי לאקמותיה מן ארעא ולא אבא ולא אכל עמהון לחמא:
lkhma emhwn akl wla aba wla area mn laqmwthyh elwhy bythyh sby wqmw
The elders of his house arose beside him, to raise him up from the earth; but he would not, and he didn’t eat bread with them.

והוה ביומא שביעאה ומית רביא ודחילו עבדי דוד לחואה ליה ארי מית רביא ארי אמרו כד הוה רביא קים מלילנא עמיה ולא קביל מננא ואיכדין נימר ליה מית רביא ויעבד בישא:
bysha wyebd rbya myth lyh nymr waykdyn mnna qbyl wla emyh mlylna qym rbya hwh kd amrw ary rbya myth ary lyh lkhwah dwd ebdy wdkhylw rbya wmyth shbyeah bywma whwh
On the seventh day, the child died. David’s servants were afraid to tell him that the child was dead, for they said, “Behold, while the child was yet alive, we spoke to him and he didn’t listen to our voice. How will he then harm himself if we tell him that the child is dead?”

וחזא דוד ארי עבדוהי מלחשין וסבר דוד ארי מית רביא ואמר דוד לעבדוהי המית רביא ואמרו מית:
myth wamrw rbya hmyth lebdwhy dwd wamr rbya myth ary dwd wsbr mlkhshyn ebdwhy ary dwd wkhza
But when David saw that his servants were whispering together, David perceived that the child was dead; and David said to his servants, “Is the child dead?” They said, “He is dead.”

וקם דוד מן ארעא ומשח ושף ושני כסותיה ועל לבית מקדשא דיי וסגיד ואתא לביתיה ושאיל ושויאו ליה לחמא ואכל:
wakl lkhma lyh wshwyaw wshayl lbythyh watha wsgyd dyy mqdsha lbyth wel kswthyh wshny wshp wmshkh area mn dwd wqm
Then David arose from the earth, and washed and anointed himself, and changed his clothing; and he came into Yahweh’s house, and worshiped. Then he came to his own house; and when he requested, they set bread before him and he ate.

ואמרו עבדוהי ליה מה פתגמא הדין דעבדתא עד דרביא קים צמתא ובכית וכד מית רביא קמתא ואכלת לחמא:
lkhma waklth qmtha rbya myth wkd wbkyth tsmtha qym drbya ed debdtha hdyn pthgma mh lyh ebdwhy wamrw
Then his servants said to him, “What is this that you have done? You fasted and wept for the child while he was alive, but when the child was dead, you rose up and ate bread.”

ואמר עד דרביא קים צמית ובכיתי ארי אמרית מן ידע דלמא יתרחים עלי מן קדם יי ויחי רביא:
rbya wykhy yy qdm mn ely ythrkhym dlma yde mn amryth ary wbkythy tsmyth qym drbya ed wamr
He said, “While the child was yet alive, I fasted and wept; for I said, ‘Who knows whether Yahweh will not be gracious to me, that the child may live?’
23
וכען מית למא דנן אנא צאים האיכול לאתבותיה עוד אנא איזיל לותיה והוא לא תאב לותי:
lwthy thab la whwa lwthyh ayzyl ana ewd lathbwthyh haykwl tsaym ana dnn lma myth wken
But now he is dead. Why should I fast? Can I bring him back again? I will go to him, but he will not return to me.”

ונחים דוד ית בת שבע אתתיה ועל לותה ושכיב עמה וילידת בר וקרת ית שמיה שלמה ויי רחמיה:
rkhmyh wyy shlmh shmyh yth wqrth br wylydth emh wshkyb lwthh wel aththyh shbe bth yth dwd wnkhym
David comforted Bathsheba his wife, and went in to her, and lay with her. She bore a son, and he called his name Solomon. Yahweh loved him;

ושלח ביד נתן נביא וקרא ית שמיה ידידיה בדיל יי:
yy bdyl ydydyh shmyh yth wqra nbya nthn byd wshlkh
and he sent by the hand of Nathan the prophet, and he named him Jedidiah, for Yahweh’s sake.
26
ואגיח קרבא יואב ברבת בני עמון וכבש ית קרית מלכותא:
mlkwtha qryth yth wkbsh emwn bny brbth ywab qrba wagykh
Now Joab fought against Rabbah of the children of Ammon, and took the royal city.
27
ושלח יואב אזגדין לות דוד ואמר אגחית קרבא ברבה ואף כבשית ית קרית מלכותא:
mlkwtha qryth yth kbshyth wap brbh qrba agkhyth wamr dwd lwth azgdyn ywab wshlkh
Joab sent messengers to David, and said, “I have fought against Rabbah. Yes, I have taken the city of waters.

וכען כנוש ית שאר עמא ושרי על קרתא וכבשה דלמא אכבוש אנא ית קרתא ויתקרי שמי עלה:
elh shmy wythqry qrtha yth ana akbwsh dlma wkbshh qrtha el wshry ema shar yth knwsh wken
Now therefore gather the rest of the people together, and encamp against the city and take it; lest I take the city, and it be called by my name.”

וכנש דוד ית כל עמא ואזל לרבת ואגיח קרבא בה וכבשהא:
wkbshha bh qrba wagykh lrbth wazl ema kl yth dwd wknsh
David gathered all the people together and went to Rabbah, and fought against it and took it.
30
ונסיב ית כלילא דמלכהון מעל רישיה ומתקלה ככרא דדהבא ובה אבן טבא והוה על רישא דדוד ועדת קרתא אפיק סגי לחדא:
lkhda sgy apyq qrtha wedth ddwd rysha el whwh Tba abn wbh ddhba kkra wmthqlh ryshyh mel dmlkhwn klyla yth wnsyb
He took the crown of their king from off his head; and its weight was a talent of gold, and in it were precious stones; and it was set on David’s head. He brought a great quantity of plunder out of the city.
31
וית עמא דבה אפיק ומסר יתהון במסרין ובמוריגי פרזלא ובמגזרי פרזלא וגרר יתהון בשוקיא וכן עבד לכל קירוי בני עמון ותב דוד וכל עמא לירושלם:
lyrwshlm ema wkl dwd wthb emwn bny qyrwy lkl ebd wkn bshwqya ythhwn wgrr przla wbmgzry przla wbmwrygy bmsryn ythhwn wmsr apyq dbh ema wyth
He brought out the people who were in it, and put them to work under saws, under iron picks, under axes of iron, and made them go to the brick kiln; and he did so to all the cities of the children of Ammon. Then David and all the people returned to Jerusalem.
